Transform Client Wins Transport for London Award

Buzz Interactive was established in 2006 and is an award-winning creative technology studio. They develop innovative apps, websites and games for leading corporate and standout start-ups, including brands such as Rodda’s, The National Trust, Santander and Tesco Mobile. The team is dedicated to delivering cutting edge solutions for their clients, together with a fully inclusive and enjoyable journey throughout.  Buzz are based in the heart of Newquay, with beautiful sea views from the studio – ideally placed for visiting clients who enjoy the prospect of a coastal meeting, and members of the team who wish to get a quick surf in during lunch, and fully taking advantage of the Cornish lifestyle.

National Recognition with TfL Award Win

On 16th November 2017, Buzz Interactive became the proud winners of the Best SME award in the inaugural ceremony held at the London Transport Museum, to honour suppliers to Transport for London (TfL).

In presenting the prize, TfL said, “This is a clear example of a small company in the UK really bringing innovation to life and ensuring companies like TfL gain the benefits from these”.  

The team at Buzz has delivered two Virtual Reality (VR) training products for TfL over the last 18 months and are delighted to have been recognised in this way.

Buzz were introduced to TfL by Engine House (another Cornwall based company and Transform client) back in 2015 and partnered them on a couple of projects.  Together they created a VR training experience for them to allow train drivers to learn how to use various aspects of an underground train cab, without needing to be on a real train or simulator (so you’d only need the VR equipment and a laptop).  A year later, TfL approached Buzz again to create another VR experience, this time around maintenance of a train.  Again, they created a fully immersive experience for them.

Business Support and Coaching with Oxford Innovation

Buzz has benefited from being on the Oxford Innovation programme for many years, and have gained valuable knowledge and insight right from the start. Lindsey, (Director) regularly attended Peer Group sessions with about 9 other businesses over a 3-year period, and these were excellent in facilitating further thought and action from the members on subjects such as HR and finance.

In addition to these group sessions, Buzz have also benefited from one-to-one mentoring sessions from various OI coaches over the years.  Buzz described their initial sessions as “truly inspiring” helping them to scrutinise their management accounts in a way they hadn’t done previously.  They expanded their team as a direct result of this input. Over the last 18 months, they have been under the wing of Transform coach Matthew Porter, with his guidance and challenging observations they have really moved Buzz up to the next level of growth.  During their time with him they have expended the team, and gained iSO27001 accreditation.

“Since I started working with Lindsey and Paul at Buzz in June 2016 we have really, quite naturally, developed a routine of monthly coaching sessions during which we review progress indicated by key metrics and work together on any number of current issues which may cover strategy, finance, personnel, culture, marketing or the latest awards they have won!  The time and space created by the coaching sessions have provided an invaluable moment for Lindsey and Paul to put their Directors’ hats on and work on the business rather in it, and rather crucially, for them to work on themselves as leaders in their business and in the sector.  Their receptiveness to the coaching process has enabled them to outperform their own targets over the last 12 months.”

What’s next for Buzz?

Buzz continues to grow and they are expecting to take on around 4 new app and web developers during 2018, although they’re not limiting themselves to this. They continue to attract bigger clients, and have some very exciting projects already signed up to start in the new year.
